Wimborne U3A

Commencing January 2017

DRAMA GROUP

A new group has been proposed covering various aspects of theatre; possibly ending with a Summer Spectacular show at a local venue.

News of this new group was too late for inclusion in the Autumn Newsletter but it is now proposed for the Spring and Summer terms starting in January.

The leader of this new drama group will be Fred Thorp (or his deputy). Fred has much experience in drama production and has taught theatre (including tap dancing) for many years and has written several comedy sketches and two full length pantomimes. He is now keen to start a drama group in the Wimborne area.

Teaching could include basic level tap dancing (If enough warranted it) through to script writing; encompassing directing, acting and performing.

The format of the classes would be a short talk each week on theatre slang i.e. Why “Macbeth” is a forbidden word in the theatre; why and how the saying “Break a leg” is used, what an “actor-proof” sketch/scene is, etc.

Then, sketches would be done by the members (voluntarily) and if all were in agreement they would be the ones used in any show. These could be from the members’ ideas and amended, if necessary, by Fred.

If all goes well a SUMMER SPECTACULAR show at the end of the final session could be performed, embracing song, laughter and/or a possible mini-panto? Or even a full length panto!

The day and venue for this group is still to be decided, but we will endeavour to arrange it for a day convenient to the majority of participants.
