World Affairs since 1945 Monday morning, 10:00 to 11:30 Allendale House, Annexe Contact the convenor

What has made this period in history different to all that happened prior to 1945 is that what has come after has existed in the shadow of the Atomic Bomb. It is only in the last 78 years that human beings have lived with the possibility that the outbreak of a third world war could witness the destruction of much of human civilisation.

It is this possibility that underpinned the Cold War and the ideological competition between the West and the USSR and the manner whereby they related to each other. This course will cover and explain the foremost events- be they political, military, social and cultural- of the period as well as how History has unfolded since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

In the real sense, given the age of members of the u3a, it is the History of our lives.
